A delivery truck driver was killed on Friday afternoon after a collision with a Canadian National Railway train on the north side of Freeburg, Illinois. The driver, Donald Stahl, 33 was from Smithton.

The driver was headed eastbound on Lanter Lane when he was stuck by a southbound freight train. Freeburg Police Chief Stanley Donald interviewed the train conductor and engineer. According to police, the train had 32 cars and one engine. The engineer told police the truck driver did not appear to see the train or hear its emergency whistle. The railroad crossing has no gate, sign or warning lights. The driver was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene.

The rail company is investigating the matter further.
