A Missouri man was struck at a train crossing in Winfield, MO when he tried to drive his truck across the track. Reports indicate that the crossing located at East Main Street in Elsberry, MO does not have a safety arm to prevent drivers from crossing the tracks. However, the bells and lights at the crossing were activated.
The driver, 30 year-old Gary Nelson, was traveling westbound when a southbound train struck his truck on the passenger side. The train was traveling about 45 MPH before the accident.
The driver was seriously injured and airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO. A dog inside the truck died at the scene.
