A train crashed into a pickup truck towing a trailer that stalled on the tracks at a railroad crossing in Marshfield, Wisconsin on Saturday morning. While it is common for truck-train accidents to result in serious personal injury or death, the driver of the truck was able to escape his vehicle before it was hit by the train. Nobody was injured. Both the truck and trailer were severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
The truck became stuck on the tracks after the driver hit a slippery patch of road, lost control of the truck, and struck a railroad crossing signal. When the crossing gates came down to signal the approaching train, the driver abandoned his truck. He got away from the pickup before it was struck by the train.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Highway 13 and Mann Road. The Wisconsin State Patrol, Marshfield Police and Fire Departments, and a Marathon County deputy responded to the scene of the crash.
